Spring Trends: Shoe Eddition!

Monday, March 15, 2010

Per reader request, we bring you the biggest trends this Spring/Summer in shoes!  We are seeing some styles hanging around from last year, some brand new styles, and some that are back from decades past.

Tribal
This goes right along with the tribal trend in clothing.  They come in all forms:  flats or heals, lots of straps or few straps, colorful or earth tones, etc.  The unifying element will be the decorative nature of this shoe.  The one below has stones that give the tribal vibe while some will have fringe or a stamped leather design.  These can be quite versatile.  Wear them with shorts, skirts, dresses or jeans.  Just be sure your look isn't head to toe tribal or risk looking like your are going trick-or-treating as Pocahontas.

Clogs
We have already reported on the coming popularity of the clog and we are saying it again: look out, here they come!  It's a 70's throwback that works paired with a flare leg jean or with a casual skirt or dress.

Cuffed Sandals
These are shoes of any kind that have a thick strap or cuff that wraps around the ankle.  You will mostly see them in the form of flats but are also found in heals.  These can take the place of the gladiator sandal of last year (which are still popular this year) or act as a flip-flop alternative.
***Take note that when wearing any shoe with an ankle strap (especially flats), your legs can look shorter.  If your legs are on the short side, take your hemline up a tad to keep your legs from looking too short.

Oxfords
These are everywhere and Moo not only loves her's, but has them in multiple colors.  They can be a good alternative to ballet flats but are typically a touch more casual (though they still look great with the right dress or skirt).

 Lahaie Brogues $80 at Aldo

Wedges
We have always and will always love a wedge.  It just says summer to us.  Platform wedges (like below) are especially popular for the coming months.  Pair them with Bermuda shorts, jeans, or dresses; nothing too short with this tall heal.  We don't think we have to tell you why.  You know better, right?
