I just recieved a pair of (faux) leather leggings for Christmas and I have to say that I love them! We know they seem completely intimidating and hooker-esque but we promise, you can pull them off (no pun intended). We have told you that we hate faux leather but as true leather leggings can run around $500, we are willing to make an exception here. We have bought faux leather leggings online (aka liquid leggings) that arrive and look more like cheap satin, so beware. Mine are by Hue and look the most like leather for the price that I have found. American Apparel also have some that look promising although I haven't seen them in person. There are a few things to note when considering leather legging so here are some of our tips.
Do:
-Keep jewelry to a minimum. Let the leggings stand out.
-Wear with layers.
-Keep make-up understated. Again, looking like you belong on the street corner is not a good thing!
-Keep it casual with a simple ballet flat.
-Keep it casual with a simple ballet flat.
Don't:
-Wear with bright colors such as red or neon. These look best with understated colors such as shades of gray, plum, cranberry and other jewel tones.
-Wear with tall leather boots - too much leather. If you wanna do boots, think ankle booties.
We always like to pair unexpected items together and we feel that is especially important with leather leggings. We suggest pairing them with a short, 60s style dress and a vest. Or wear them with a jersey tunic or dress with a chunky cardigan over it. You can dress them up with heals or I'm actually digging them with Chucks a 'la Ashley Olsen for a weekend casual look. Here are a few celebs who got it right.
