Knee Socks

The hubby and I went to a baseball game this weekend and I cleverly (or perhaps not so cleverly) roped him into a little fashion talk disguised as baseball talk. The debate: did we like the uniforms with the long pants or with the socks over pants? The result: socks won... as for who won the game, I'm not sure. Maybe it's my love of socks that makes me love the old school baseball uniforms.

Jilly Moo's Basic #5: Ballet Flats

Friday, September 25, 2009

Every Gal Needs: Ballet flats in basic black and/or a nude color of your choice (camel, a metallic, etc)

Fit: Of course shoes work for all body types... isn't that why we love them? Ballet flats are super comfy so they are great to wear day to day and are so versatile. We prefer plain flats without embellishments for extra versatility. We like the flats that have little sole on the bottom (they should bend easily like an actual ballerina's slipper). We wear ours with leggings, jeans, skirts, dresses... have we mentioned that we love them?

LC is back

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Those that know me know I have many style icons and infatuations... Kate Hudson, Rachel Bilson, Jessica Alba but my new favorite for a few years has been Lauren Conrad (circa Laguna Beach and The Hills). I love her! Needless to say I have always been Team Lauren. She is always dressed appropriate for age, occasion and trends. Her first clothing line was a little disappointing... I mean who is going to pay $200 for a cotton shirt! She was trying a little too hard and most of America did not get it.

Minnetonka Baby

Monday, September 21, 2009

You've all seen celebs in Minnetonka boots in years past (Moo still clings to hers). How pumped were we when we discovered that they make them for the kiddos as well! Love the velcro on the back... makes it super easy to put on our wiggly baby's feet. Are these stinkin' cute or what?

Jilly Moo's Basic #4 : Pencil Skirt

Friday, September 18, 2009

Every Gal Needs: A pencil skirt in jersey or cotton. Get one in a neural color of your choice.

Fit: We personally like (and get the most use out of) a version in a stretch cotton material. It can be dressed up or down. The fit should be snug but not so tight that it looks like you should be working the street corner (a.k.a. no excessive pulling of the fabric across the toosh). Depending on your height, the length should be either slightly above or below the knee.

Twilight Makeup

Monday, September 14, 2009

I guess it was bound to happen. With the crazy Twilight Obsession (yes, we admit it: we too are Twi-hards) that is currently sweeping the nation there is about to be Twilight makeup. The line is done by DuWop, famous makers of the ever popular Lip Venom. In fact there is a special Twilight version of the lip plumper, half of which will resemble blood ($16). Creepy, but kinda cool none the less. In fact we already found the Lip Venom ready to buy online at Nordstrom.

The Big Clean Out

Sunday, September 13, 2009

So... we have started another little project. Like we don't have enough going on with kids, hubbies and our new blog! However, in hopes of blogging about our new adventure we started it... re-vamping our wardrobes and cleaning out our closets. Let me tell you, this will be the article of the century when we post the final end. Mine (Jilly) was first and one quick lesson I learned from my own mistakes... buy basics! I have more patterns than the bedding section at Macy's. My version of a basic black tank had laced edges and velour (wow that sounds frightening but it is actually really cute). So, yesterday I started on my list (I have a huge list of items to buy). One was neutral color crew neck shirts. I found some great shirts at Nordstrom Rack: 2 for $12! I cleaned out!

Jilly Moo's Basic #3 : Skinny or Straight Leg Jean

Friday, September 11, 2009

Every Gal Needs: A pair of skinny jeans or straight leg jeans, your choice (or both!).

Fit: Some think they can't wear skinnies but you really can! At the very least, they are great to wear under tall boots (please don't wear regular jeans with tall boots!) or with ballet flats. Make sure they are the proper length to wear with flats; no dragging or excess bunching around your ankles. We aren't particularly wild about skinny jeans with heals and prefer a straight leg jean for this, but some like it. Straight leg jeans that are worn with heals will not drag the ground because of the cut but can bunch around your ankles. Like the skinny jean, be sure to strike a balance between too short and too long.

The Girls Are Back!

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Obviously we aren't the only ones psyched about the latest Sex and the City movie. It has just begun filming in (where else?) NYC. The ladies have been spotted out and about in Pat Field's latest outfit creations. Here's a little eye candy for you. These will have to hold us over for now. Take a look and be inspired.

Fall Trends

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Out with the old and in with the new... or maybe not. A lot of the fall trends have made a comeback this year but in new and different ways. We have rounded up the good, the bad and the just downright ugly! Here is what, as Rachel Zoe would say, we'd die for!

Black Leather: We have seen this in jackets, skirts, boots, leggings... everywhere! It is a hot ticket item this fall but can get overwhelming if you aren't careful. Here are some of our tips:

Deja Vu

My fam and I just got back from a much needed vacay at Rosemary Beach, Fl. Great little town , lots of cute stores in Seaside. I stumbled across Deja Vu and fell in love with the clothes and the prices. Very Bohemian and California cool. I found them online...yea! Now the site looks like it is still under development so they don't have everything on it yet but keep checking! They even have a personal shopper that can help get you the right fit for the right body type.

Jilly Moo's Basic #2 : Bootcut or Flare Denim Jean

Friday, September 4, 2009

Every Gal Needs: Either a bootcut or flare leg denim jean, your choice. Great to wear with basic tops, blazers, sweaters, and fun tops to go out. Just make sure the top isn't long and overwhelming.

Fit: Make sure the length is appropriate: the bottom of your jeans should skim the ground. We hate when jeans aren't long enough (this looks especially bad when the jeans are flare). Make sure the jean is fitted in the bootie, hip and thigh and begins to flare out at or below the knee but be careful that the jean isn't too tight through the hips and pulls the fabric across (this means no fabric puckering at the zipper and no bunched up fabric pulling across under your bootie). These jeans can shorten the leg because of the width so to lengthen the leg, wear heals unless you are confident that you have long legs! This also means no rolling up bootcut or flare leg jeans to wear with flats... save that for skinny or straight leg jeans.

Tanks Cont....

We got a great "Ask Jilly Moo" question about what our favorite tanks are. We both really love James Perse tanks. We both wore ours throughout our pregnancies and they survived the stretching out and they popped right back into place (can't quite say the same about our bellies). They come in tons of colors, are long, soft, thin but not too thin and better yet, have lasted through years and years of washings. There are several styles but we especially love the long ones. They are a tad on the pricey side for a tank (around $45-$55) but defiantly worth the investment in our opinion.
