Strap Perfect

Monday, August 31, 2009

Okay...so I am a big fan of racer back tanks but I am not a fan of strapless bras...or worse yet going incognito. So I fell for it and bought the Strap Perfect at Target the other day. I gotta say I love it! It conceals your bra straps so you don't have that tacky bra strap hanging out look that Denise Richards seems to love! It is really comfy and they come in nude, clear and black! Check them out!

Jilly Moo's Basic #1: The Tank

Friday, August 28, 2009

So many times we have read about fashion "must haves": the little black dress, a white button down shirt, etc. We have bought these things out of obligation but never wear them. Frankly most of the items that are always listed bore us. We at Jilly Moo's need a little more excitement in our lives so we are doing an updated version of the must haves. A better version... the Jilly Moo's version! Each week watch for a new basic to be featured and three different suggested ways to wear them: weekend, work and night.

Every Girl Needs: Tanks in black, white and a neutral color of your choice such as grey, navy or tan.

Fit:  We believe the the most universally flattering and easy to wear tank is mostly cotton with a little stretch (2% or so).  We like a long and lean fit that hits around hip length.  Racer back is optional but can make those with wide shoulders look even wider.

VS Pink Tees

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

In the past month I have lost a sweater, a pair of earrings, a necklace and 2 of my favorite tee shirts. I'm convinced that someone is breaking into my house and stealing my stuff. Ok, maybe I would rather believe this than think I'm loosing my mind (which is most likely). I guess I will have to take solice in the fact that the tees that I lost are from Victoria's Secret's Pink line. They are so soft, comfy, long and inexpensive: the perfect combination! I love to wear these to bed, running errands, or just knocking around the house.

Anna Sui for Target

Friday, August 21, 2009

We love Anna Sui but her dresses can run around $400 (not so great for the thrifty gal) so when we heard she is coming to Target we were thrilled. Even better, her inspiration for this line was one of our favorite shows, Gossip Girl (yes, we are a little obsessed). Now you can look like Serena, Blair and co. and not break the bank. The line hits stores on September 13 and will run until October 17. Mark your calenders. Here's a little preview of what's to come.

Mini Boden

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

We are often asked where we find clothes for our boys. We have found that cute boys clothes are pretty hard to come by and it can be pretty frustrating. We aren't sure why people feel the need to stick a cartoon character on the front of a perfectly good t-shirt (we won't get on our soapbox). We love the boys clothes by Mini Boden... and the girls clothes for that matter! Their clothes for fall are too cute. We may go broke stocking the boy's closets this year.

The J Aniston Khaki

Monday, August 17, 2009

Usually we aren't such a fan of Jennifer Aniston's style. If we have to see her in one more pair of cargo pants or one more black dress we may die of boredom. However, basic as it may be, we are kinda loving her fresh take on the khaki pant. Very summer, very easy to do. Wear yours with a chunky heal a la Aniston or with a cute ballet flat or gladiator sandal. No sneakers please and keep the top fitted.

Back to School

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

So, yes I am that mom that can sometimes be a little over the top with my kids clothes and accessories. Hence "Sopapilla" has had a bow in her hair since birth. My big girl starts pre-k this year (not touching that subject because I will cry!!) so I wanted to get her a cute and different backpack. I am not a big fan of the character bag deal (or character anything really, although I love vintage Disney) but here are some cool backpacks I stumbled across:
Pottery Barn Kids: They can be personalized and come in matching luggage. Not that my kids are world travelers or anything but cute for an overnight stay at the grandparents.

Zoo Packs: These are cute animal backpacks and they are big enough to fit a folder and books in. I love them!

Room It Up: Cute patterns and they are canvas. You can embroider them if you want to personalize on your own. There is also matching lunch bags.

Wildkin: This one is similar to Room It up but the pattens are for the younger crowd. My favorite is the rodeo one.

Stella & Dot

Monday, August 10, 2009

I am an insane magazine reader... borderline obsessed really. One of my many favs is of course a shopping magazine - Lucky... which by the way is a great read! They featured some cool and unique jewelry a few months back that is perfect for accessorizing with your classic pieces. They are fun with a vintage feel... like raiding your grandmother's jewelry box but modernized with great color! This line has become quite popular with the celebs from Debra Messing to Selena Gomez... so they are versatile for all ages and occasions. Some of the pieces can be pricey and I don't like to spend a lot on costume type jewelry, although I learned the hard way to spend enough so it lasts longer than one wear. I have had way to many necklaces break on me... literally right off my neck!

Gap 1969 Jeans

Gap is getting ready to launch it's new line of jeans, the 1969 jean, in stores on August 13th. Celebs including Ashlee Simpson and Halle Berry are loving these jeans. They supposedly have designer quality fabric and washes at budget friendly prices (most jeans run under $70!). Gap's new creative director, Patrick Robinson says that he spent a year and a half getting these jeans store ready and boasts that he would put them up against any brand of jean and these fit better! Usually, I'm not such a fan of gap jeans... actually I find that most gap clothes don't fit me the best. I have high hopes for these though. I'm especially loving the skinny jean and the boyfriend.

Dazzle Me This

Thursday, August 6, 2009

There are a few other loves in my life besides clothes, my kids and my hubby and that is...reality tv shows! One of my favorites is Keeping Up With the Kardashians... mindless tv at its best and the girls have great style. A little over the top at times...but good none the less.

Shop It To Me Baby!

Check out this great website that we discovered. It's Shop It To Me. Here they list tons of designers and lines such as Free People, Juicy Couture, Ella Moss, etc. You check the ones you are interested in as well as what size you wear and they will send you updates either daily or weekly when the lines you have selected go on sale. Great stuff. Enjoy gals!

The Scarf Addiction

It's that time of year again: we are making the transition from summer to fall and our wardrobe needs to do the same. Whether you are up north and enjoying Indian Summer or are here in Atlanta like us where its hot until November, there is an easy way to revamp your summer wardrobe: scarves. We have been seeing them everywhere, from celebrities, magazines and around town. We are obsessed with them. We were at Nordstrom Rack (Nordstrom's outlet store where you can find great deals on designer brand name clothing) just yesterday and they had a big variety for $6.97. One of the problems we had in the beginning was finding ways to wear them. We are here to help you sort through the confusion. Below are a few of our favorite ways to wear them.

  • The Loop: put the scarf around your neck where one side is longer than the other; take the longer side and loop it around your neck and pull the looped portion down several inches depending on scarf length and fluff out. If the scarf is very long you can loop it around more than once. Do not leave the scarf tight around your neck or else you will look like Snoopy.
  • The Drape:   This is a variation of The Loop. Begin as you would in the Loop, just keep wrapping until the ends of the scarf are no longer visible. You can also simply start draping the scarf around your neck until you reach the end of the scarf.

  • The Pull Through: This is exactly what it sounds like. Fold the scarf end to end and put it around your neck. One side should be a loop and the other is two ends of the scarves. Thread the ends of the scarf through the loop and pull. Again be sure not to pull too tight. We like this look with a thicker scarf.
  • The Bandanna: This method is for square/triangular shaped scarves (preferably fringed). Spread out scarf and fold diagonal across so it is shaped like a triangle. Tie the ends together and place over your head so it is hanging like a necklace would. Hint: on these scarves we just leave them tied in our closet so we can grab and go.

  • The Basic: So easy; just drape this scarf around your neck and let the ends hang. Make sure the scarf isn't too long. This can also be done with a square shaped scarf if you fold it over into a triangle.

  • The Tie: Drape the scarf around your neck and simply tie the two ends together. Let the knot hang a little low. The key is to be casual; not look like you are wearing a men's tie.

We love them so much because you can wear them with almost everything from a t-shirt and jeans to skirts and dresses. It gives any outfit a layered look which is perfect in transitioning to the fall...keep it casual...no button down shirts, best worn with cotton or cotton blends.
